Compare local CDL training locations
The check line names each location's active FMCSA Training Provider Registry listing and training types, verified in the October 27, 2026 download. These are public-enrollment locations; confirm your next class and exact driving site with the provider.
Automatic trucks; skills testing on site. KCKCC offers registration for the same Apex location, so it is combined here rather than counted as another campus.
Program includes classroom theory, simulator sessions and road and range practice. School says its Missouri location also offers third-party CDL testing.
Registry provider name: EK Management. Two active entries share this location; they are merged here. The school's current program page specifically advertises Class A.
Automatic trucks only. CDL-B has no classes currently available and is excluded from this row. MCC's enrollment instructions request a Missouri driver's license.
School also advertises Class B training and manual or automatic trucks. Its contact page gives ZIP 64055; the registry lists 64057-6617 for the same street address.
FMCSA lists the Lenexa training site at 8163 Cole Pkwy, KS 66227. The school names Lenexa but does not publish its street address on this campus page; confirm the meeting and testing locations.
TPR public location: 6800 W 115th St; the academy also has a separate private-enrollment listing that is not shown here. Confirm the physical driving yard.
JCCC publishes this range in Edgerton; FMCSA uses Gardner for the same street and ZIP. Next listed starts: CDL-B December 7, 2026; CDL-A weekends January 9, weekdays January 11 and evenings March 22, 2027. Evening students test during weekday daytime hours after the course.
FMCSA defines Class A for qualifying vehicle combinations and Class B for qualifying single vehicles. Use Missouri DOR or Kansas Revenue instructions for the state where you hold your driver's license.

Review age and medical requirements
Missouri requires initial applicants to be at least 18 and to meet medical self-certification rules. FMCSA's training guide explains that interstate driving generally requires age 21; ask each school about its admission and screening requirements.
3
Obtain your commercial learner's permit
Pass the knowledge tests for the class and endorsements you need. Missouri and Kansas require you to hold your CLP for at least 14 days before the skills test.
4
Finish registered theory and driving
For a first Class A or B CDL, complete applicable ELDT through a registered provider. Kansas verifies completion through the federal registry before allowing the required test.
5
Pass testing and obtain licensing
Arrange your skills-test appointment through the state or an authorized tester. Missouri DOR explains the license-office visit after passing; Kansas Revenue publishes skills-test contacts and appointment instructions.
Truck-driving jobs and pay around Kansas City
For heavy and tractor-trailer truck drivers (SOC 53-3032), the BLS May 2025 Kansas City, MO-KS metro table and BLS regional release report employment of 18,230. Median pay was $28.93 an hour and $60,170 a year. This occupation is a useful pay reference for Class A training; it does not represent every job that requires a CDL.
The metro spans Missouri and Kansas. BLS survey definitions distinguish jobs counted from vacancies and median wages from average wages. Use these figures when weighing tuition, then ask each employer about starting compensation, driving territory, weekly hours and time away from home.
CDL tuition and ways to fund training
MCC publishes $5,600 for CDL-A, including its DOT physical and drug screen. The KCKCC registration route at Apex costs $6,000. JCCC lists $6,999 for CDL-A and $3,499 for CDL-B; its FAQ says licenses and student screenings are extra. Ask for the written total, including permit fees, test attempts and truck use.
JCCC's funding page lists WIOA support, continuing education scholarships and a limited veterans grant. Contact your local American Job Center through the Full Employment Council or Workforce Partnership before committing to tuition. Ask about an employer-paid route and any work commitment or repayment terms.
For GI Bill support, verify the exact program with the VA. If considering FAFSA or Pell, ask the provider to confirm that this specific course qualifies; a college location alone does not establish eligibility.
Apex publishes a four-week Class A course with at least 180 training hours and Monday starts. JCCC lists 160-hour CDL-A options over four weekday weeks or nine weekend weeks, plus a weeknight course starting March 22, 2027. Your calendar also needs time for the permit, screenings and skills-test appointment. Ask which steps must be finished before your first driving session.
Can I get a CDL at age 18?
You can pursue intrastate training at 18, but interstate driving generally requires age 21. FMCSA's CDL training guide explains those age limits, and MCC limits students ages 18-20 to Missouri driving. Because the Kansas City area crosses a state line, discuss the route and employer's requirements before choosing a job.
What does the FMCSA check line mean?
The Training Provider Registry lists providers and the training categories registered at each location. For a first Class A or B CDL, you generally need both theory and behind-the-wheel training under ELDT rules. The check line shows the listing verified for that row. Ask who submits each completion record and confirm the location again before you pay.
Does training in an automatic truck affect my license?
It can. FMCSA identifies the E restriction for a driver who takes the skills test in an automatic vehicle and is therefore restricted from operating a manual commercial vehicle. CDL Pros advertises both transmission types. Ask which truck you will use for practice and for the test, since equipment can affect your later driving options.
Can Kansas residents attend a Missouri CDL school?
Check the school's admissions rules and your home state's testing process before registering. Zeta says students from all states may test at its Missouri location. Kansas still requires applicable ELDT completion in the registry. Ask how the school sends your results and which documents your home licensing office will need to issue the CDL.
